Liturgical Ministries
The following ministries help directly to accomplish our liturgies.


ALTAR SERVERS
Altar Servers assists the priest with the celebration of the Saturday evening and Sunday Masses. They are children who are in the fifth grade and up.

ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE
The Environmental Committee prepares and decorates the church interior using flowers and banners according to the liturgical season. They meet before major seasonal changes. Holy Week and the week before Christmas are very busy. They can always use more people. There is a special need for talented seamstresses and people who can take care of plants.

MINISTERS OF COMMUNION
The Ministers of Communion assist the priests to distribute the Holy Eucharist during the Saturday evening and Sunday Masses. Also, they distribute the Holy Eucharist during services at El Cerrito Royale. They meet once a year to train new ministers.

LECTORS
Lectors do the first and second scripture readings, lead the Prayers of the Faithful and read announcements during the Saturday evening and Sunday Masses. Anyone with effective reading and public speaking skills is welcome to volunteer. Young people are needed for the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Children’s Mass. Mer's guidelines for Lectors

LITURGY COMMITTEE
The Liturgy Committee is responsible for preparing quality liturgies for the parish. They decide what liturgies will occur when. Then they coordinate and prepare the other ministries so that each liturgy is meaningful for all. They can always use more people and would like a good cross section of people in the parish who attend each of the Masses. Meetings are usually the second Saturday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Conference Room.

ST. JOHN’S ADULT CHOIR
This choir provides music for the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass to enhance the liturgy and inspire the congregation to sing. They also give concerts during Christmas and Easter seasons. Rehearsals are in the Choir Room every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Anyone who can carry a tune is welcome. Ability to read music is not required.

ST. JOHN’S MULTI-CULTURAL CHOIR
This choir provides music for the 12:30 p.m. Sunday Mass to support the diverse cultures of the parish. It presents special liturgies in native languages. Everyone who can sing or play a musical instrument is welcome. Rehearsals are in the Choir Room every Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 12:00 noon.

ST. JOHN’S YOUTH CHOIR
This choir provides music for the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Children’s Mass. Any child attending St. John’s School in grades 1 – 4 who can sing is welcome. Rehearsals are 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesdays in the Choir Room during the school year.

USHERS
The ushers help seat and direct people during the Saturday evening and Sunday Masses. They also pass the collection baskets.

Sacristans
The Sacristans prepare the altar for liturgy and services. They are also responsible for the inventory and replacement of the various altar supplies and linens.
